بادام تلخ کوهی یا آلوک شبیه هسته زردآلو و ریز است. به صورت خود رو در کوهستان های کردستان و شیراز بیشتر رشد می کند. وقتی مغز شود کاملا شبیه هسته زردآلوست و کمی هسته آن پرتر می باشد و رگه های روی هسته آن کمتر از هسته زردآلوست.

بهترین بادام تلخ موجود در بازار بادام تلخ ایرانی می باشد. چون بادم ایرانی دارای مغز پرتر و روغن بیشتری است. بادام تلخ افغانی روغن کمتری دارد و مغز آن کیفیت ظاهری ضعیف تری دارد.

در ایران نیز مناطق مختلفی ماننده سبزوار، شیراز و کردستان و آذربایجان بادام درختی تلخ دارد. از میان محصول این مناطق بادام تلخ آذربایجان هم درصد روغن بیشتری دارد و هم مزه آن تلخ تر بوده و کیفیت دارویی آن موثرتر است.

قیمت بادام تلخ در بازار با توجه به وفور محصول و حجم تقاضا تعیین می گردد. بادام تلخ با پوست سنگی قیمت مناسب تری دارد ولی مغز چون مصرف و درخواست بیشتری دارد، گرانتر است. از ابتدای سال 97 بادام تلخ گرانتر شده است و اکنون بالغ بر 50 هزار تومان به فروش می رسد.
